Manchester United Bounce Back with Convincing Win Over Southampton

Manchester United ended a turbulent week on a high note with a resounding 3-0 victory over Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium. Coming off back-to-back defeats, including a crushing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, Erik ten Hag's side desperately needed a positive result, and they delivered with an assured performance that lifted the pressure off their under-fire manager.

Slow Start, but United Seize Control

The first half saw Manchester United struggle to get into rhythm as Southampton made a bright start. The Saints looked sharp in possession, pressing high up the pitch and creating opportunities to unsettle United’s defense. One such moment saw Diogo Dalot concede a penalty after bringing down Tyler Dibling in the box. However, Cameron Archer’s weak penalty was easily saved by André Onana, a moment that would prove to be the turning point of the match.

From that point on, United began to assert control, with Matthijs de Ligt opening the scoring in the 35th minute. Bruno Fernandes delivered a superb cross, which de Ligt headed into the bottom corner, marking his first goal for the club since his summer transfer. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in United’s favor.

Just six minutes later, Marcus Rashford added a second, guiding a low strike through a crowded box after being set up by Amad Diallo. The goal was a crucial confidence boost for Rashford, who had not found the net since March, and it effectively deflated Southampton’s early enthusiasm.

Dominance in the Second Half

With a 2-0 lead going into the break, Manchester United took control of the second half. Southampton, despite their positive start, found it increasingly difficult to break through United’s defense. Russell Martin’s men struggled to maintain the high tempo they had shown early on, and their build-up play was too often let down by poor finishing in the final third.

Manchester United, on the other hand, were happy to sit back and absorb pressure, waiting for opportunities to hit Southampton on the counterattack. The Saints' frustration mounted as they continued to struggle in front of goal, and their day got worse in the 79th minute when Jack Stephens was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Alejandro Garnacho. The dismissal all but ended any hopes of a Southampton comeback.

In stoppage time, Garnacho himself put the final nail in Southampton’s coffin, scoring United’s third goal. Diogo Dalot’s cross found the young Argentine, who unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net, wrapping up the victory in style.

Positive Signs for United, but Work Remains

For Manchester United, the result was a much-needed boost, ending a rough patch of form and quieting some of the criticism surrounding the team. Ten Hag’s decision to bench Casemiro, who struggled against Liverpool, seemed to pay off, as the midfield looked more balanced. Bruno Fernandes was pivotal once again, providing the assist for de Ligt’s opener and dictating play throughout the game.

Defensively, United will be pleased with the clean sheet, their first in the Premier League this season. Matthijs de Ligt was outstanding at both ends of the pitch, and Onana’s penalty save proved crucial in swinging the momentum in United’s favor. Rashford’s return to the scoresheet was another encouraging sign, as his form has been one of the key concerns for United this season.

However, while the scoreline was comfortable, the performance was not without its flaws. United were sluggish out of the gates and relied heavily on Onana’s save to prevent an early setback. Additionally, while they controlled the second half, they could have been more ruthless in front of goal, as Southampton’s ten-man side offered little resistance late on.

Southampton's Woes Continue

For Southampton, the result was another bitter pill to swallow in what has been a difficult return to the Premier League. Russell Martin’s side showed promise in the opening stages, with 18-year-old Tyler Dibling impressing on his debut, but their inability to finish chances ultimately cost them dearly. Archer’s missed penalty was the defining moment, and from then on, Southampton struggled to recover.

The red card for Jack Stephens compounded their misery, and while the team has shown flashes of the attractive, possession-based football that earned them promotion, they have yet to adapt to the rigors of the Premier League. With four straight defeats, Southampton find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table, still searching for their first points of the season.

Conclusion

Manchester United will take great confidence from their 3-0 victory, especially after such a difficult start to the season. Erik ten Hag has weathered the storm, for now, but there is still work to be done if United are to challenge for a top-four finish. For Southampton, the need for reinforcements and a sharper edge in attack is becoming ever more apparent, as they look to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

In the end, it was a comfortable victory for Manchester United, but the game’s early stages were a reminder that they still have vulnerabilities. For Southampton, the wait for their first Premier League points continues, as they face the daunting task of turning things around after four consecutive losses.

Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol

Anyone who has already watched Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol would have notice that Mission Impossible 4 is a little bit different from the previous three Mission Impossible(s). I am not sure why there are many critics on Tom Cruise acting, but to me, he is ok. I mean, I know a lot of times, they are saying that Mission Impossible is like talking about himself, but I really beg to differ. Mission Impossible is not really about Tom Cruise alone, I mean he is the leader, he do most of the dangerous work, but behind him is a group of capable secret agents who can support him in all the missions. Anyway, back to Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol. The story started with a chase on a roof in one of a building in Budapest and the agent look so cool when he jumped down and look upwards to shoot the chasers.....but however, was later assassinated by a female assassin. Then we have Ethan Hunt break a prison from Russia with the help of IMF agents and proceed to accept a mission to infi
