Lone Survivor [Review]

Yesterday I watched Lone Survivor with a friend after I read that the movie is based on a true story written by a retired United States Navy SEAL, Marcus Luttrell on the Operation Red Wings - and I got to admit, I really like the movie. The actions are so real, the pain, the injury are so real until sometimes I have to bite my teeth watching.

The movie begins by introducing the main casts of the story, Marcus Luttrell (Mark Wahlberg), Michael 'Mike' Murphy (Taylor Kitsch), Danny Dietz (Emile Hirsch), and Matt 'Axe' Axelson (Ben Foster) in the US Military base in Afghanistan and  not long after some brief introduction of the main characters, they were told to go for a briefing on a mission to capture or kill notorious al-Qaeda leader Ahmad Shahd.

And so the Operation Red Wings begin with the Marcus Luttrell and team reached the destination but having difficulty contacting the base and the team is expected to have communication problem. The team rest but after some time, some villagers appear and after discussed the team decided to release the villagers back to the village, knowing that the villagers will inform al-Qaeda and they will be hunt by the Taliban fighters.

Delivery Man [Review]

I got to admit...I really love comedy movie....especially the Hollywood's one, with a lot of beautiful stories to learn from.

Delivery Man is one of those....well, it's predictable, nothing new but it helps to give a good laughter and lift one up. A movie that I'll recommend to anyone who wanna watch with their friends or even loved ones.

DELIVERY MAN

Synopsis:

“Delivery Man” is a story about an affable underachiever David Wozniak (Vince Vaughn), whose mundane life gets twisted in a knot when he finds out that he fathered 533 children via sperm donations he made twenty years earlier. In debt to the mob, rejected by his pregnant girlfriend, things couldn’t look worse for David when he’s hit with a lawsuit from 142 of the 533 twenty somethings who want to know the identity of the donor. As David struggles to decide whether or not he should reveal his true identity, he embarks on a journey that leads him to discover not only his true self but the father he could become as well.

Alright, when I first read the synopsis, I was shocked and did a Google search on it and up come Starbuck. It was then that I realized this is a remake of the movie "Starbuck". Well, for those of you who not know, the "Starbuck" here has nothing to do with coffee but the name that David Wozniak used to conceal his real identity as a sperm donor.

The movie started with the right tone, with a setting that shows how lousy David was in doing his work...the parking tickets...how he showed up late and regardless of the countless times that he was reminded of the company jersey, he still managed to fail to get it done. There was a lot of funny scenes even at the start of the movie...the many failed attempts in getting a loan to repay his 100k debt to the mob. Then, his visit to his girlfriend, revealing about him becoming a father soon but his girlfriend, Emma preferred to deal it on her own...complaining about him being unreliable.

Chris Pratt and Vince Vaughn in the funny movie: Delivery Man
The scene where him talking with his best friend and lawyer, Brett about being a parent was hilarious. It was lovely, warm and funny at the same time...it just makes you wanna start a family as well....(okay, I'm exaggerating)....but Chris was awesome in his role as Brett. (God, he even fatten himself for that role....a big thumbs up!!)

Well, after that comes the real deal...a lawyer appearing at his doorstep, telling him that he's hit with a lawsuit by 142 of the 533 twenty something children that he has after some error in the clinic of which he went to donate sperm under the name: "Starbuck".

After that, it was about his curiosity to find out these kids, to learn about them and know about their lives....and he even tried to be their "Guardian Angel".

Some of the chemistry between him and his "children" were awesome....of course, after some time, you will notice how unrealistic the movie is.

It was all sweet, lovely and amazing....this movie just make you feel hopeful...so if you're struggling with life, whether you are at your 20s or 40s, it doesn't really matter....there is always a chance to get things right.

533 children? Really?

This part if awkward and funny at the same time
I watched the movie with my 2 buddies in the cinema...it's definitely worth the money....not the best movies that I've seen but one that I'll recommend going if you are looking for something to laugh about and to be hopeful of after the show....

She's the Man [Review]

The other day while I had nothing much to do, I decided to watch some old movies, preferably the comedy genre. I happened to find this movie: She's the Man. The title sound familiar but I forgot where I saw it before....after googling it, I realized that it was the movie by Amanda Bynes where she impersonate her twin brother so that she could played in the boys soccer team.

Anyway, I never thought the movie would be good but I'm glad I watched it. It was indeed an awesome movie, with a lot of jokes and I got to admit, Amanda Bynes was good. Throughout the entire movie, Amanda Bynes was simply a lovable character.

Bynes plays Viola, the twin sister of Sebastian (James Kirk), who at the start of the movie conveniently sneaks away to London for two weeks without telling anybody. Viola is the star of the girls' soccer team at Cornwall Prep, a school that seems to have enough money to supply every girl with her own soccer team. She thinks she's good enough to play for the boy's team, but her hopes are scorned, so she takes advantage of Sebastian's absence to take his place at nearby Illyria Prep, named after the country in Shakespeare's play. There she tries out for the soccer team.

Well, did Amanda pulled it off as a guy?

Amanda Bynes
I would be crazy to say she managed to convincingly play a role as a boy, but she plays a cute tomboy with short hair and how she keeps forgetting to talk low and then clears her throat. It was hilarious.
(I have a few tomboy friends myself but none of them are as convincing as Amanda Bynes in the movie...that's how good it is....)

Can Amanda Bynes really play good soccer? Can she stays with the boys roommate, taking shower together and still not caught in the process? Well, not really but the movie did not emphasize on it and it was clever. She has a few close calls and acts fast. When the soccer coach started the training and announced a practice game between Skins and Shirts, she was quick to offer reasons (well, it's pretty lame excuses but it's good enough) why she should be a Shirt.

She's the man

Then, there is the roommate, Duke (played by Channing Tatum). There seem to be a crush between him and the school's most popular girl, Olivia (played by Laura Ramsey). Well, Viola (Bynes) had a crush on Duke in the process (partly due to the private conversation they had, when Bynes pretended to be her brother, Sebastian and of course, their first kiss at the "kissing booth").

Tatum is a little too old to play the role as high school kid but Bynes pass with excellent colours. She is funny, sunny and plucky....for some reasons, she just managed to find her ways to play this impossible role, in a way that makes the audience love her.

The movie is good-natured and silly, and at the end there is a big soccer game during which both Viola and the real Sebastian are able to offer proof of their genders. Well, I felt that the PG-13 rating that cites nudity is far-fetched. There isn't any of those naughty bits in the movie....and yet, it's so good...funny and makes one had a good laugh.

[Lyrics] Young Girls by Bruno Mars

I always feel that Bruno Mars is an awesome singer...his vocal is incomparable to all the existing artists (maybe besides the late Michael Jackson), his choice of music (most of the time an alternative to the popular hits) and yet the music has always been amazing.

BRUNO MARS

And I love the way he put it: Unorthodox Jukebox.

Anyway, this is about one of his songs that hit me and captured my attention immediately.

Young Girls

I spent all my money on a big old fancy car
For these bright-eyed honies
Oh, yeah, you know who you are
Keep me up 'til the sun is high
'Til the birds start calling my name
I'm addicted and I don't know why
Guess I've always been this way

[PRE-CHORUS]
All these roads steer me wrong
But I still drive them all night long, all night long

[CHORUS]
All you young wild girls
You make a mess of me
Yeah, you young wild girls
You'll be the death of me, the death of me
All you young wild girls
No matter what you do
Yeah, you young wild girls
I'll always come back to you, come back to you

I get lost under these lights
I get lost in the words I say
Start believing my own lies
Like "Everything will be okay"
Oh, I still dream of simple life
Boy meets girl, makes her his wife
But love don't exist
When you live like this
That much I know, yes I know

[PRE-CHORUS]
All these roads steer me wrong
But I still drive them all night long, all night long

[CHORUS]
All you young wild girls
You make a mess of me
Yeah, you young wild girls
You'll be the death of me, the death of me
All you young wild girls
No matter what you do
Yeah, you young wild girls
I'll always come back to you, come back to you

You, you, you, you
Yeah, you, you, you
You, you, you, you

All you young wild girls
You make a mess of me
Yeah, you young wild girls
You'll be the death of me, the death of me
All you young wild girls
No matter what you do
Yeah, you young wild girls
I'll always come back to you, come back to you
