RED 2

Well, when the movie RED first came out on the cinema, I was curious and the movie amazed me. The 2010 movie was awesome, and it was inspired by the limited comic book series of the same name, created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, and published by the DC Comics imprint Homage.  So, when they talk about RED 2, I'm quite excited about the movie. Check out this poster and you know what I mean... RETIRED EXTREMELY DANGEROUS But just as most movies fail to live up the expectation for their first movie, the same happened to the sequel of RED. RED 2 was not bad, but it's just not good. I totally agree with what was mentioned by Justin Change of Variety , "An obligatory sequel that can't quite recapture the sly, laid-back pleasures of its cheerfully ridiculous predecessor." Anyway, I'll keep my review on another time but if you wanna know the synopsis for this movie, please continue reading (spoiler included): While trying to lead a nor...

The Avengers

Watched The Avengers with my brother, Kian Hin and sisters midnight yesterday. Overall, the movie is awesome. We have Chris Evans returning to reprise his role as Steve Rogers aka Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as the billionaire, genius, and philanthropist Tony Start aka the Iron Man, Scarlett Johannson as Agent Natasha Romanoff , Chris Hemsworth as the demi-God Thor. Pretty much most of them are from the Marvel comic movies are getting their roles.  The movie started off with S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury arrives at a remote S.H.I.E.L.D. facility during an evacuation. The Tesseract, an energy source of unknown potential, has activated and it opens a portal through space from which the exiled Norse god Loki steps through. Loki takes the Tesseract and uses his abilities to take control of the minds of several S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel including Dr. Erik Selvig and Agent Clint Barton to aid him in his getaway. In response to the attack, Fury re-activates the Avengers Initiati...

Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol

Anyone who has already watched Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol would have notice that Mission Impossible 4 is a little bit different from the previous three Mission Impossible(s). I am not sure why there are many critics on Tom Cruise acting, but to me, he is ok. I mean, I know a lot of times, they are saying that Mission Impossible is like talking about himself, but I really beg to differ. Mission Impossible is not really about Tom Cruise alone, I mean he is the leader, he do most of the dangerous work, but behind him is a group of capable secret agents who can support him in all the missions. Anyway, back to Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol. The story started with a chase on a roof in one of a building in Budapest and the agent look so cool when he jumped down and look upwards to shoot the chasers.....but however, was later assassinated by a female assassin. Then we have Ethan Hunt break a prison from Russia with the help of IMF agents and proceed to accept a mission to infi...

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

Although I blogged about this movie now, I actually watched this movie last few weeks with a friend. I was quite busy with house renovation stuff and also went for a family vacation in Singapore during the Christmas season. Now I believe this is one of the must watch movie for families with kids. It's funny and hilarious and at the same time show some family bonding among the chipmunks and David. The movie started off with the family going to a vacation, en route to perform at the World Music Award. As usual, the hyper and mischievous Alvin plays around and got the chipmunks into troubled and punished by David. While having their punishment, Alvin, turned the punishment into fun-ishment and finally got the chipmunks into deeper trouble and flew away to an island. David, in order to search for the chipmunks follow suite with Uncle Ian. Well, the movie introduce some recurring characters like David and Uncle Ian, but at the same time new character like Mandy, who was lost in the isla...

Real Steel

Real Steel is definitely a must watch movie of the month. I'm not quite convince about the storyline at first - mainly because I feel the storyline must be like few adults playing computer games like Street Fighter, only different is the fighters are robot.... but since a friend of mine decided to even watch it another time, even though not in 3D version, I feel that why not give the movie a try. What I can say is Real Steel is definitely worth my time. The story set in the near future where robot boxing is a popular sport and centered on Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman), a former boxer who is trying to make it big this new sport, but failed miserably to do so. When his financial situation turns really bad on one of the day, he discover he has an eleven year old son, Max (Dakota Goyo). However, his ex-wife is dead and the custody automatically goes to him, in which his ex-wife's sister would be grateful to have the custody of the eleven year old Max - in which Charlie blackmail he...

The Smurfs

Finally have a chance to watch The Smurfs in the big screen on Saturday afternoon with a friend of mine. For those who thought the Smurfs was anything new, the Smurfs actually was a cartoon series that the people from my generation might have watched it during our schooldays. The cartoon series involved group of blue fictional characters called Smurfs, mostly males and these characters are very short, only three apple high. Almost all characters look essentially alike with blue skin, white trousers with a hole for their short tails, white hat in the style of a Phrygian cap, and sometimes some additional accessory that identifies a personality. Back to the movie, the Smurfs were enjoying their happy life, as always and are preparing for the Blue Moon festival; and Papa Smurf has a vision that the Smurfs will be captured by the evil wizard named Gargamel and the whole event actually caused by Clumsy Smurf, thus when Clumsy asked Papa permission to pick up some herbs nearby Gargamel's...

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

On the same day that I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1, I also watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D version with my both my sisters. Overall, I find the movie is nice, and I easily rate it four out of five. There are several scenes that are really suitable to watch in 3D, so I wouldn't say it is a waste to spend the extra few bucks for the 3D version instead of the normal one. Those who are used to read subtitles to understand the conversation will badly missed the subtitles as there is no subtitles for the 3D version, like most 3D movies. It started with Edmund trying to get into the British force by faking his id, and Lucy is there to blow his cover. Then Lucy and Edmund go back to their cousin Eustace Clarence Scrubb's place, where they are staying while both Peter and Susan are away. Eustace Clarence Scrubb is a rather dour and mean spirited little boy and does not like both Edmund and Lucy, so while they are arguing in...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1

I just watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1 over the last weekends with my siblings and my brother's girlfriend. While many friends have already told me that this movie is kind of boring, I found that it really depends on how you really want the movie. I am more towards the plot instead of the fighting scene, so I would say that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1 is not bad actually. I would rate the movie at 4 out of 5. The movie begins with tRufus Scrimgeour, newly appointed Minister of Magic, addressing the magical world about Voldemort slowly returning to power. Meanwhile, Severus Snape arrives at Malfoy Manor and informs Voldemort when the Order will move Harry from Privet Drive, according to his source. As Voldemort preparing his evil plan to kill Harry Potter, he borrowed Lucius Malfoy's wand to avoid battling with the twin wands and then murders Charity Burbage, Professor of Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. Back to the good guys, the Order arrives t...
